As of June 30, 2007, 15,027 people were diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in Colorado. By that time, 4,645 deaths occurred among AIDS cases and 323 deaths occurred among persons with HIV infection in the state. In Colorado, nearly 10,000 people are known to be living with HIV/AIDS. Of those diagnosed with AIDS through June 30, 2007, 8,872 were in Denver County. Arapahoe County followed with 1,248 HIV/AIDS cases. Of HIV/AIDS related deaths in Colorado, 3096 were in Denver(Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment)

It’s estimated that 15,000 people are actually living with HIV or AIDS in Colorado, reflecting the estimate that one in four people who are HIV-positive are unaware and have not been tested. 

From January through December 2006, 40.5% of those diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in Colorado were between the ages of 30-39, 36.5% were 20-29, and 15.4% were 40-49. (Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment)

Of the 306 people diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in Colorado in 2006, 238 were men (85.3%), and 41 were women (14.7%).

16.8% of new HIV cases reported in Colorado in 2006 were African Americans, and 15% were Hispanic. (Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment)

Since its inception in 1983, Colorado AIDS Project has served more than 8,000 clients. (CAP)
